If you are wanting something to display raw files, you might look at the Wolverine ESP series.

...or the Epson P-3000, considering the current rebate ($100)

the reason im thinking of the vision w is because i can get it for about $200 or so and the fact it plays movies and music pretty well.

I got the W and love it. I play high quality videos from stage6 and it looks amazing. I also used it as storage during my vacation and it performed flawlessly. I didn't even bother to use my ipod on the plane because the W sounds just as good. FM tuner was a bonus. Check out www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/ to read about the Zen.

It works fine as photo storage as long as you can live without the RAW viewing.

Seconds on the above. I wish it had RAW capability, though.

I bought the ZEN W a month ago and have to say I am totally satisfied.
I bought it to store images and with it get the bonus of a MP3 player and Video Player. Price was right as well.
No it won't view RAW images but please, who shoots in RAW without saving a JPG as well??;)
My previous storage was the Flashtrax which was painfully slow to upload a CF card compared to the ZEN. Battery life for uploading photos is excellant as well.
If you haven't already purchased the ZEN "Get 'er done"
My humble opinion.

Got this reply back from WolverineData today in response to my question to them about when we could expect Canon 40D and Canon G9 RAW support:
Hi Jim,
We are working at supporting the 40D in about couple of months. As for the G9 currently it may work because to our information Canon uses the same type of format as the G6. However, to be 100% sure you could email us an image and we could test it and let you know. If it does not work then we will add it to our to do list.
Even if we do not support the display of a RAW image you could still save these images to the ESP. In addition, if you take a RAW+JPEG then you could see the JPEG file and the RAW will just be listed.
Thanks,
Wolverine Data

Oops, sorry. I had (W)olverine ESP on the brain rather than Zen W.

I have the ZEN and I love it as a player. During our last vacation I used it as a backup storing my pics instead of dragging my laptop along. I was a bit nervous though I had tested it with raw files and it worked flawlessly, but after a week of uploading and not viewing that little demon of doubt niggles at you. As it turned out all the pics were fine, they all uploaded to my PC without issue and my little ZEN has become my portable picture backup device.
