In a few weeks I wil be going down the Grand Canyon on a rafting trip and hope to do some STAR TRACKS type photography at night. :D Question 1: I bought the TC80 remote timer for this but will my camera go to sleep and not wake up with this timer? and Question 2: will my battery run out during the long (3hour) exposures, Question 3: should I take my 10D or my 1Dmk11, considering there is no place to recharge batterys on the river. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd keep the star trails to film cameras. Prefereably those that don't use batteries. I use the Mamiya 645 for them as 1) it doesn't use batteries and 2) the detail is incredible.
Back to your Question... buy and store extra batteries. I would think the MKII has better capacity, but I don't know.

reply to roppelt : But if I reset the camera to not go to sleep then the battery will go dead before I ever get the picture taken !!
