Just wondering why you might need this product if your camera has a PC connection already. Is it just for the convenience of not having a cable hanging from your camera (assuming you're using transmitters) or are there other benefits?

That is to allow you to use the PC connection on your camera to connect to a 580 Off-camera without using any expensive masters (like a 580 or ST-E2).

That product is for the orginal 580EX that does not have a PC port. The benifits are more reliable connection (1/8 mono vs PC) and one less adapter to carry, along with other special applications.
