We are trying to give our talented daughter a nice set up a piece or two at a time for birthdays and Christmas. One of those is coming soon!

So far she has the XTi with the Sigma 17-70mm and the Canon 70-200mm f/4L lens, a nice tripod and a backdrop and light stand set. What do you think would be the next reasonable choice of equipment?

Thanks for any suggestions.

A 430EX and a 50mm 1.8 comes to my mind.

A remote trigger (corded or cordless) would permit shots at slow shutter speeds on tripod, without inducing shake with the shutter button press.

A Canon or Kenko Pro DG 1.4x teleconvertor

Extension tube set, automatic (for macro work)

An incident flash meter

A Canon 10-22mm lens

A right angle viewfinder (for macro or low level nature shooting)

The Canon battery grip for XTi

Hoya SHMC polarizing filter

A little more info would be great

What type of photographs does she take? sports? portraits, macro, wildlife, landscapes? etc Mainly inside or out?

What type of work does she usually do?

May be out of the budget...but how about a new computer and a copy of photoshop cs2 or cs3. Unless of course she already has this...

Edit:
Wonderful parents by the way.

Can I be the adopted talented son? Hehehe...

Seriously though, great gifts. A new bag to house all her googies? And more lenses is always good!!

Thanks for the help here! Some very good ideas. It is a little overwhelming looking at all that is available and trying to make orderly choices.

To answer, she does street photography, portraits, close-ups (but not macro as she has no true macro lens) of stuff and the general arty thing. (the hard to describe kind). So far, she takes mostly outside and some night work too.

Thanks again.

5D to add to the kit, 50mm f/1.4 to go with it initially.

Set of extension tubes so that she can shoot some macro.

A nice backpack.

EF 85 1.8. Great outdoor portrait lens! My 10-22 was real fun for long exposure night shots.

Go with a flash and a way to get it off camera, it will make a huge difference in any portraits
