Nice shots!! Of the shots that you posted, my favourites are definitely the third and the last one. The last one is really nice - I like how you can see the car taking off when the back-end pressed down, the consistent motion blur coming from the background and while the subject is sharp. Very nicely done!! Your third picture looks really neat as you can see both cars ripping it through while the background is nicely blured.

Nicely done! Keep it up!

The last show I was most impressed with too. Captured the launch perfect!

Cheers for the comments!

You may want to 'pre-focus' on a point on the race track close to where the cars drive so that the lens doesn't do so much 'hunting' when the car comes by. Panning with slower lenses can be a pain, but it can be perfected.

I don't get much chance to do track paning, so will have to practice with my mates cars!

My short experience with this Sigma lens is that it's OK for the price, but I'd rather keep it in MF when shooting moving targets.

Panning shots are difficult, I couldn't get one right with the kitlens nor the Sigma. Today, a photography shop owner walked outside and gave me a Canon L lens of roundabout $1200 to play with. Panning immediately worked better, but perhaps I got lucky.

I can see that helping, but the lense is only as good as the photographer ..

i went to ford fair too, it was my first time shooting from trackside too (which is where i stuck to most of the day).

where abouts did you shoot from? you seem to have avoided the areas where fences were in the way! lol

i got a fair few shots too - i saw your thread on passionford, your smaller lens shots looked really good, especially the one from the RS500 stand with the sky line in the shot.

I use a Bigma 50-500 occasionally, it works great for cars, (if you use it with a 1D MkIIN) and you can beat the range. But it's just too slow for sport bikes.

My favorite is the Canon 100-400 L great range and it's fast enough. I just don't like the slide zoom, and the lack of Autofocus with an extender at least on a 20D.

I would like to check out the Sigma 80-400 and with a 1.4x extender.

I was with UKFN so was shooting through a gap where the fire safety truck was positioned, next to the stand.

I must say I was quite impressed with the results of my shots ..
