Okay guys, help me out. I want to buy a flash for my Rebel XTi but i have no idea what each flash incorporates as far as distance, speed, ect. So please, any advice with this stuff is really appreciated.
Like i said i have a Canon Rebel XTi, and i shoot a lot of motocross. Its normally at night, so i need something that is going to not only light up the rider, but has speed to take more then one picture every ten seconds like the stock. What should i look at getting?

Although I pined for 550 or 580 :p(because they're the best), i was on a VERY tight budget and so had to settle for barely used 420, but I am VERY impresses with what this unit is capable of, even if does'nt have a manual function.
If you have the spondoolies, don't hesitate on a 580, but even with a 420 you won't be dissapointed and you could upgrade later and keep the 420 as a second remote unit. Cheers.

There are two reasons I recommended the 580. The first is raw power. Given the subject matter the OP says he's interested in, I think he would sooner or later need the extra power. The other reason is that the 580 offers a strobe mode. It will emit a number of flashes over the course of the exposure. I think this feature could really give him some dramatic shots at motocross events. It does all come down to the dollar though. :)

Get the 580, and when you upgrade to a better body (and you will, trust me) you won't have to upgrade the flash. :)

580EX. If recycle time is critical look into the CP-E3 also.
