The first 3 shots of the Veery were taken over a month ago now and the Warbling Vireo is from this past weekend. While the Warbling Vireo is a bird I see quite often, the Veery ususaly don't come out and pose like this:)
Canon 30D , 400 F5.6 and 580EX ( flash for fill at -2/3 to -1)

I agree, all are great shots, but the last one has just that little something extra.

Great shots Gary, as always. I'm glad you posted the veery, cause I saw a new bird around last week and he looked similar to this. I thought it was a huge sparrow.
Haven't seen it since though.

Terrific shots Gary with the Vireo being my favourite....we saw a number of them in Algonquin park last week, but no great shots, which was too bad. The Veery is also a great looking bird. Thanks for posting these Gary.

Very nice series here. All have great comp, focus and detail. BUT the Vireo looks like an oil painting...it is better than good...it is truly a stunning capture. Excellent work.

Good first 3 shots but the last one is fabulous. I think the lighting and closer range on the last is what makes it.

Great shots Gary, I like the Veery (especially the first shot) and , of course, the single shot of the Vireo. The warblering Vireo is one of my favorites and waiting for their return.

Excellent shots, very good detail and colours with great looking b/g's... I especially like the Warbling Vireo, a very tough bird to get out in the open, the b/g is very dramatic. :-)

The first three images were taken in later morning light and the light was difused through a thick canopy of leaves high in the woods on Petrie island. Without the flash I doubt the shots would have gone anywhere. The Veery on the other hand was taken in very early morning light and the BG is the forest behind it ( a Russian Olive tree I think judging by the long slender leaves). It really is all about the light and how it makes an image appear. I have several other shots from that day and i will see if there is anything else worth posting.
A big thank you for looking and commenting to gary, Dustin, Mitch, Scott, Carlton, Coopers911, Allen, Wayne, Dennis, Stephen, Shirley, downywp, Anke, Ted, Bill, Reigh and Mike:D

Nice series indeed! And yes the last one is my favorite.
Love the detail and angle of the bird on the branch!
