No, this isn't your typical "how do you price this gig" post.

I have a possible opportunity in the next 2 to 3 months to shoot cover and story photos for the local (and I mean one zip code local) magazine for our area. They are expanding into a 3rd area and their current photographer is going to be too busy covering the first two areas to handle this one, so I may have a shot.

I am currently working up my portfolio.

I am proposing to go in and if they like my portfolio, I am going to propose working by the hour for around $45/hour. I have done photojournalistic work for a church extensively, a couple portraiture jobs, and a wedding coming up, so I believe I can provide them what they need after having seen the photos in their current editions.

Any additional thoughts would be helpful. I think that if I get the gig, I need to get a legal contract drafted by a lawyer as has been advised already on POTN.

Thanks,
Pat

It's aways great to ask for a high price people will respect you much more. they mmight even pay it. I think this sound like a wonderful opportunity. I would get a contract by lawyer for sure though. best of luck!
