Did I get a deal?

I just bought a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens at a flea market for $25.00 Canaidian. Good shape. The glass is clean and the auto focusing works but studders a little. I figure it's just a matter of cleaning the contacts. Unless it's the 7 point focus of the Rebel. At twenty five bucks I thought it was worth the chance.
Do you figure I got a deal?

what do you mean it "shudders" in AF mode? The 50mm f/1.8 MK1 I had worked flawlessly in AF mode on my 10D.

After playing around a little I realize that the "shudder" is actually the autofocus changing rapidly in and out as the dof is very sharp.
Here is a photo I shot but the focus is a little off. Purely user error, not the lens.

haha...i paid $72 for mine...by far my favorite lens right now, i havent taken a bad pic with it yet, but i havet used my 70-200 yet either...*sigh* darn rain

I realize that with the auto focus the range of focus is so sharp that it was adjusting with every little movement. I was just not use to it. I've been use to the kit lens for the past 2 months.
I've snapped a few more and find this a very good macro lens indeed. Even if the af didn't work, at twenty five buck you can't go wrong. The Sky filter that was on it is worth half that.
Anyway, I'm a happy camper.

Yes, and that's $25 Canadian Bucks which is about $18US
Up here the 50mm F1.8II sells for about $140 CDN.

You don't want to know what I paid last weekend for my EF 50 f/1.8 Mk II (the cheap plastic version)... € 129 (US$ 155). :shock: That's more than twice the normal price in the USA. It was an outrageous price, but this lens seems hard to find (it's out of stock all the time at B&H) and I saw it in a local shop.

The build quality of the Mk II is very cheap (it looks and feels like a plastic toy) but it is a very sharp lens! I was impressed when I looked at my first photos with it. :)

I got the lens at the Cloverdale flea market, for those of you in the area. I definately will be checking out flea markets more often. There is a big one in Vancouver I'll have to check out.
And to think, I tried to get the guy to go down to 20 bucks. He wouldn't budge. He said it was worth 40. :lol:
