greetings! I am new to the D10 world, and macro photography in general, and need to take lots of photos for a future North Dakota beetles publication. these are a few pics that I have taken with my camera and a cannon 100mm macro. any suggestions or comments? I did not use a tripod on any of these, and was wondering what I could do for greater depth of field, if anything. These were taken in the auto setting, as I am still learning the camera controls. will the A-dep setting help? thanks for any suggestions!

Colorful shots!
Re: "will the A-dep setting help?": It might be fun watching you try to make it work with the wind blowing the blossom, the little bug racing around!

1st: Learn to use M so you can control what the cam is doing.

2nd: Forget AFocus, too! Focus on your subject at the distance you wish to shoot at. Then refine focus by moving the cam in & out. You'll go nuts if you try to do it with AF, or the focus ring.

Good luck! :)

PhotosGuy already gave you the right tips for focusing when shooting macro. If you intend to use a tripod very often you might consider to buy a macro focusing rail, a simple but effective tool to move the camera in the horizontal plane.

Regarding postprocessing: Your pictures lack color saturation, brightness and some sharpness. Shoot in RAW mode and apply the actions "EOS 10D Finishers.atn" you can download for free on my web-site:

Finally I would suggest to avoid putting your subject right in the middle of the picture.
