View Full Version : Exposure Problems with Mark II and ST-E2

I recall that there was a post either here or on another forum where people talked about getting underexposures when using the Mark II with the ST-E2 AF assist device (which some people use as a flash trigger! :D ). What made me sit up and take notice was that Chuck Westfall acknowledged the problem, so it wasn't the usual whiners and flamers inventing an issue.

I can't find the thread using the search engine here. Does anyone know about the problem? I will likely use these two pieces of equipment together, and want to figure out what to do about the problem beforehand. Thanks!

There is actually no problem. When ST-E2 is attached the camera assumes that flash is used. So, it reduces ambient exposure in Av and Tv modes assuming that ETTL flash fills the rest. When you do not have flash and you want to use ST-E2 only as assist light, your choices are to use M mode, or have exposure compensation (about +1) to make ambient exposure correct.
