View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO DAY: PART 73 -- THE COLOUR GREEN

Pete

This weekend's theme is the colour GREEN. There should be plenty of green around (hopefully). It's the colour of verdant, vibrant life, it's also a colour that lends itself to nice contrasts with blues and reds.

The usual rules apply:

- take photos from sunup Friday until sundown Sunday
- post photos by Monday or when you have time
- usual forum rules for image posting apply which means max 800 pixels on longest side and max 2 attachments

Have fun.

And in the South we might have to take pics of stuf that used to be green. We have had two straight days of record breaking highs, 104 yesterday and 105 today, previous was 103. Add the humidity to that and it has been nasty. But everything here is dry (except the air) so grass, plants, trees, and flowers are all taking hits pretty bad. Top it off with a rainfall deficit for the year. But I can find something green, I assure you.:)

First one from me. This little robin came up pretty darn close (eating the ants in the grass).

I have been none stop busy for quite a while and won't stop until I leave for Africa in two weeks, so I thought I should take time out to pick up my camera and go wander. I headed down to a little volunteer run nature reserve that I joined when I first moved here. Haven't had chance to see it so the colour grren seemed a good excuse. I really missed my big lenses and only had the 24-105mm with me and the light was too bright, should have left an hour earlier, but I had a great time there. The bird life was amazing there but my lens way too short. Anyway, a few 'green' shots ... strange none of the nest boxes seemed to have any occupants. I also saw a fabulous Heron shot, he was perched atop a dead tree, and my 400mm would have caught him peachy - oh well!

It's been ages since I posted here! - I managed to actully get out with a camera over the last few days and took these:

1 - Saturday afternoon - Just a close-up of a bush (of some sort), lots of green in this one :-)

Canon 20D, 135L

2 - Sunday morning - Not such a nice day today, and quite murky after a bit of rain. The grass is really green due to the amount of rain we have had this 'summer' Took this sat on the tailgate of the pick-up after checking the fencing early this morning.

Not me! - We just rent the land from a 'Landowner' (She's definately not a farmer!) I just help look after it and get a reduction in the bill :-)

Ahh... 'Number 3' toast - Only slightly brown, but just crispy! - I like mine about 4 or 5 :-)

Yup ... I am a 4-5 man myself son ... mine has a setting for frozen bread too which is a real bonus. Ya stick it in and toasts real nice. Means yer don't have to keep a big fat loaf out and waste half of it: ya keep it in the freezer and liberate a slice as yer fancy some ;-) Mine is chrome and so won't fit under this theme. Maybe another time!

Ok, so now that i am spending a couple of weeks in the Great North West.. where everything is green, I find it quite a contrast from the desert, where everything is reddish brown! Here little birds hide in the trees and last night I saw a raccoon up in this very tree. So here is a little birdy in the green..

Good to see you back condyk, great shots it looks like a great little reserve. Hope you have a great trip.
Kevin C love the second shot, you really captured the mood.
Pete love the robin, it is so different from the North American Red breasted one. I agree with your toaster setting.

Stopped by a Car show on Saturday and was able to pick up a couple of shots that fit the theme.

Wonderful images everyone and welcome back Dave. I am so jealous of all the green you guys seem to have around you. The heat and drought here are really taking their toll on nature. Lakes are so far down in the area that people's boats are resting on dry ground at the docks.

I was so busy this weekend that I was unable to shoot. Softball is over for a few weeks so hopefully I can get some shots this weekend.

We've been in a drought, too. The corn in some fields is so stunted that it looks comical in a sad sort of way. Creeks are trickles compared with what they usually are.

Pete -- Love that robin shot!
Condyk -- Good to have you back this week. Was that another tale about the heron that got away?
Kevin -- Welcome back. Enjoying your 2nd shot with the inviting open gate.
Joayne -- Ahhhhh, a little sparrow. Guess you're in green shock coming from the desert to the Northwest.
75D -- Cars shows are amazing. They always seem to have good stuff to shoot. No matter what the World Wide theme is, it's waiting at a car show. Like the mint green job.
Hoff6754 -- Welcome to POTN and the World Wide Photo Day. Good looking family in a good setting for outdoor fun.

Here are my two:

Lovely, Barbara.

We also have "weeds" that I'm reluctant to uproot.

Nice shots, Sam. What kind of bird is in #2?

You're in the Lehigh Valley? I'm not too far from there. I'm about 25 miles south of Harrisburg.

^^ #2 is some kind of Sparrow hunting at a local park. That's a 1 in 100 shot; pure luck.

I'm south of Allentown in Emmaus.

Looks like there are a lot of portraits for the weekend assignment.

Nice shots everyone. Here's my contribution: an engagement shoot on Saturday, shot in a very lush and green area.

Here are my two submissions. A little plant that my son planted in school last year and its still growing...some kind of bean sprout I think. The second was my mid-day snack....cucumber with salt, pepper and lemon juice...mmmmmm. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

Better late than never. I just picked up my MKIII after it have been adjusted for backfocus and went out in the green nature to test it some.

Yes but I also was before I knew it was backfocusing  I just asked the servicecenter to check focus and the result was that they adjusted it for backfocus.
