I agree. Nice shot and a cool subject too. There has to be a way to spruce up the black and white version though. I'm just not sure what to do with it!

I like the color version because of the rust and blue on the locks.

Very interesting photo. That's an expensive way of making a chain, and makes you think which one is the weakest link :). My favorite is the color version. Perhaps the BW pic could benefit of a sepia effect.

I was thinking of something much more darker and mysterious than the sepia effect. I'm trying to remember the member who is known for taking shots like this one and making them fantastically dark.

Ok, here it is. This guy does some amazing work with his PP and uses some brush work too. His shots are amazing. He could make either version of this shot pop even more than they already do.

You can also run a Dragan action, and give it that dark look.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!! I really appreciate any and all feedback.
I agree that the b&w version is missing something.
Short story behind the chain of locks:
The chin of locks is actually what keeps a small gate locked that leads to a county/city walking and biking area. Each lock is associated with a different department or organization what truck/work access to the area.
