POTN Book for aussies

ok i put this to the powers that be

"If the POTN admins are happy to do this, i just worked out shipping 20 books comes to about $8 USD shipping each to me, if admins are happy to put an official post up stating australian customers can pay me directly i can order in bulk then ship it out to them, total cost would be $47 - $51 USD or $56 - $61 AUD (need to make sure blurb honor the 10% bulk discount as it didnt come up in the cart) shipping to their door vs $70 + USD through blurb, but i would only do it if people paid upfront."

put your hand up who would be interested, im not here to make anything off of it just cover the costs and help aussies get it cheaper.

POTN "powers that be" are wary of group buys that we have no control over,. so other than making this a sticky thread this is all you Ozzers...
Just as POTN stays out of marketplace transactions. we'd have no way of protecting the members on this one either..

That said, it sounds like a great plan so have at it!

I'm interested.

I suggest Paypal: they have a few 'safety net' features to ensure peace of mind for all parties involved. The only problem is that they'll slug you a slight fee per payment into your account—if you can live with that, I think it would be the best option.

I'm in, so put me down for one. $60 odd is cheap, blurb give me a price over USD$100!!! CRAZY!!

Oh, BTW, I can ONLY pay with paypal, so only put me down if paypal is an option.

Is the pope a roman catholic? Bloody oath I'm interested in a bulk order. Paypal or direct deposit to a bank account though, as I don't have a credit card. I don't have the Internet on at home Cider and I'm only checking POTN irregularly, so PM me with further details pretty please :)

doh!!!
oh well, i didn't see this until too late and had already ordered a few copies. i did want to say 'thanks, mate' for organising the bulk ship and i would have taken advantage of it.

ahh np mate :)

a little change though, i just got word from blurb and they dont offer discounts on multiple orders like their site suggests unless you are the person who created the book so the figure will change slightly, ill work it out again tonight.

Doing rough numbers on 20 books I work it out to be:

Books: 20 x $40USD = $800USD
Shipping: $160USD

Total: $960USD = $1196 AUD / 20 = $59 AUD

But it is approaching the $1000AUD GST free limit, so if we do get hit with that then it would be an extra 10%.

10% = $120AUD
Total(inc GST) = $1316AUD / 20 = $65 AUD

Then there is still the possibilities of extra customs duties. Then there would still be shipping the books within Australia, so probably allow an extra $10AUD or so.

Which would put the final price at between $69 - $75+ AUD each.

The problem for the person carrying out the order is not having an exact cost before the books are in the country.

Regards,
Zac

i just got an email saying their shipping is dramatically reduced to oz...

(oops - yeah, see above post...)

michael_

$43 Euro isnt cheaper :) but the swiss option is, in that case really a group buy becomes useless so if people want the book probably best to purchase it yourselves now. Still $20 USD to ship to Aus, with the strong dollar i guess its ok.

lol its funny they offer single item printing cheaper when i originally planned this i could get 20 items shipped via UPS express for 160 USD now for UPS express for 20 they want $225 which works out once to me then i report more expensive.

Did this group buy happen, or I presume with blurb reducing the price of shipping to Australia, most people are buying direct from blurb? I'm curious cos I don't have a credit card, and blurb does not accept money orders or paypal...very poor service on their part.
