Those are great shots. Showing her in her real environment, where most of us don't get to see.

I like the backlighting and flying snow in number three, though they're all nice.

Don't see those kinds of shots too often. Great captures!

Well it really does look cold.
Three great pictures thanks for showing them.
Its not what you normally see on your days walk.

Nice shots. Is that the new 110' that replaced the 95'?
Good job on the capturing it in actual use.

Thanks for all the kind responses! 110' Patrol Boats aren't typically used in icy conditions like this, but the surface ice was thin enough to carefully poke between the larger ice-chunks.

Kona, yep this is the one that replaced the 95' Cape-class cutter in Petersburg back in the early 90's.

Thanks for looking,
Herb

prplegophr,
I never rode on the 110' but was on a 95' in Guam. They retired my boat just a few years later for the big ones. When I was in Miami they have 4 or 5 new 110's and they never stopped working. There was some news about structure flaws but were supposed to ride better then the old ones.
Stay safe.

Kona, at the risk of running off topic, I thought the 110' was a sweet boat myself (hope to return to one in a year or two). I think the structure flaws you were hearing about were on the 123' conversions (basically: welding 13 extra feet to the back of the boat). That program has since been halted, go figure...

They've got active stabilizing fins too, which are great for steadying those at-sea handheld shots! (There, back on topic.)

Stabilizing fins, nice. We rode like a cork ALL the time. You should submit your pics to Fredsplace.org. They are always looking for cutter photos.
Stay safe and stay warm.

Good stuff... it's tough to capture snow/ice correctly, and these shots do that extremely well (and I agree that #2 is the winner). Thanks for sharing!

There was a segment on "60 Minutes" just last night about the flaws in the 123' conversions. There are eight of them that are so unseaworthy that they are going to be decomissioned and scrapped. They are so bad the Coast Guard is even afraid to give them away to another country.
