300 f/4l USM hand-held @1/400 sec.
Unprocessed JPG straight outta camera and 100% crop.
If you have a steadier hand than I, or use a pod, or a higher shutter speed, you can do better.;)

Your killin me. ;)

I was hoping for a bird shot, but guitar players are good too, for peeping the detail. :)

I find the 300mm to be a very good FL for many different things from birds (it is quite sharp even with 2xTC) to people portraits, other wildlife, flowers, etc.

I have both the Sigma TC's, 1.4 and 2x APO DG EX's. It should be able to keep AF with the 1.4 and f/4, no? Haven't worked out the math yet. :)

I don't know how Sigma TCs work, but with Canon's 2xTC you are OK with 1D cams, but lose AF on Rrebels, 20/30D etc.

They should be the same. A friend has the 1.4 Sigma and the 1.4x Tamron [old version] TC's and uses them stacked behind his 500L on a Mk3. Of course, a Mk3 will keep AF, but we tried it on a XTi and that kept AF also, cause the Tamron TC's do not report themselves to the camera. ;)

I've got the 30D so 1.4 x 4 = 5.6. It should keep AF with the 1.4x. :)

That is my understanding also Mitch. An f/4 and a 1.4 will keep AF as will an f/2.8 and a 2x.

One more with x1.4 TC, the original and then 100 % crop.
Again, shot hand-held, unprocessed JPG.

Quite amazing clarity and detail, especially for no PP and even taking into account it's from a D1Mk2.
