Hi, so i haven't connected my camera to my PC in quite some time now, since i've got a seperate card reader. I do remember it being able to connect in the past, without any problems. But when i connected it recently, my computer wasn't able to set it up properly (showed up in the device manager with an exclamation point). So i decided to try to upgrade/re-install the drivers. I downloaded the drivers installation program from the canon website, and ran it, but in the process, i get this error:

I was wondering, how do i go about fixing this? Any help would be great. THANKS!

IIRC at least some of Canon's updates require the original installation to be intact, and in the default configuration in order to work. If you installed any other kind of imaging or storage device, or another Canon peripheral (printer, scanner, another camera) since the last time you used the 10D this might be the cause. Try using the original CD to re-install the camera and then doing the upgrade.

i am pretty sure that the 10d instructions ssay to install all software before connecting the camera, if you have the book i would read it again, if not i am sure that you could download it form somewhere

i've tried re-installing the cd, and it still won't connect. It's not really a big idea, since i don't really ever need to connect my camera to my pc, but it would be nice if i could when i needed to.

Did you try uninstalling and then reinstalling (Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs) the drivers and applications?

When you bung-up the installation of a USB device, it is a real pain to get the remnants out so that you can do the correct install.
First, go to the Control Panel and look for any installed Canon Camera software. You will want to uninstall/remove this and then reboot. I would suggest a power-down for 30 seconds and then reboot, but just because I like to make sure that anything previously in RAM is really gone.
Then, with the camera unplugged from the PC, reboot and install the connection software/drivers. When done, connect the camera and see if this gets it done.

i tried doing that just now, but i can't seem to un-install the drivers. When i click it to do so, it says it is starting up the un-install wizard, and then all of a sudden nothing comes up, as if i didn't even do anything. Not sure what's going on here.
