I have a corrupted CF card. I used (a free version) of Digital Image Recovery: http://gdesroches.free.fr/formation/dir.zip (which is no longer free http://home.arcor.de/christian_grau/dir/index.html ).

It recovered all files, but the recovered RAW files are not recognized by the conversion software. Is there a solution (besides spending $29 on photorescue)?

Thank you

Have you tried Image Rescue from Lexar? It's free. I don't know what it does for corrupted files.

Thanks, Scott. But, I see only the updater to version 2.0 from 1.0.

Version 1.0 is free on Lexar CF cards. Perhaps someone can give you a copy.

Thanks Scott. I understand it only comes with the "pro" series of Lexar CFs. I decided to buy Photoresque. It recovered almost all files, except for one or two.

msvadi, do you know how it happened? I've wondered what would happen if I turned off the cam while it was writing to the card, but haven't had the guts to try it!

Turning the camera off, while a file being written to the CF card is not a problem, at least with the DRebel (I believe with other cams too). It will contune to write. Openning the CF card slot door is a different story.

In my case, one of the two things caused the problem. First of all, it was a new CF card and I forgot to format it before using. Second, I used the BreezeBrowser slide show to view the files on the card. I should have copied the pictures first to the hard drive. When I pulled the card from the card reader, the windows gave me an error message. The folders with pictures got corrupted.

Thanks for the info. One thing less to worry about!
Good luck with yours.
