Does everyone use the lens caps supplied with the lenses from Canon? I find them difficult to handle smoothly. They don't go on with a positive click and I never know if it is on good enough. Is there an aftermarket cap that works better?

Tamron has nice lens caps.. they have a pinchy thing in the middle which is easier to get off with a lens hood on compared to the Canon ones with the pinchy bits on the sides.

^ what he said.
many users here prefer the center-pinch caps, as they're easy to use, especially when you have a hood on the front of your lens. there's quite a few that you can buy on ebay also, not just the tamron kind... they're all pretty good though i hear

I just got a "center punch cap" off E-bay and it is great...... No more problems putting the cap on with the lens hood in place.

Spend a lot of time doing photography and you'll find you just take the cap off at the beginning of a shoot and you put it back on at the end of a shoot, instead of replacing it all the time. The first time you miss that once-in-a-lifetime shot because the lens cap is on, you'll stop the constant changing.

I always have a lens hood mounted (not reversed) and use no filter, either (except filters for special effects).

Exactly...
I spend a lot of time at the zoo and I can usually judge someone's photography experience level within a minute or two of watching them. There are some dead give-aways: How they hold the camera, do they use a hood and do they have a filter on the lens. The one that gets me to shaking my head is the person with a filter on their lens, the hood reversed and shooting into the sun...

There was also the fella shooting a private party that I was attending (and shooting as a favor to the couple for who the party was thrown) who had a Nikon DSLR with some sort of zoom lens and a backwards-mounted hood. I couldn't figure out how he manupilated the lens with the hood on backwards.
