Well I was out shooting today at a lake outside my city. There was absolutely dozens of grasshoppers jumping around. Though I was happy to find a pair of dragonflies hovering around. One was brown, the other a stunning red. I decided to go for the red one.

I managed to taken a few good shots of him with my Pro1. But when I was setting up for another shot, out of no where comes this big black flying predator and snatched the dragonfly right when I pressed the shutter.

I guess dragonflies aren't always the hunter, clearly here they are also the hunted.

Too bad I didn't get it in focus, to be honest it startled me!

Looks like a hornet got your subject while you had it distracted.

Funny thing is that when I was just about to take a shot of another red one, it flew right into a spider web. But I got it out :)

Great capture, it's just nature not very nice sometimes but that's the way it is.

At least you had the presence of mind to hit the shutter!

Definitely looks like a hornet to me. One of those shots when you think 'if only...' Still an impressive capute though.

Kewl shots, These big black hornets are quite the hunters, I used to watch them come into the open overhead door of the maintenence shed at work, they would cruise the low ceiling and snatch flies on the run. They also have a habit of building large paper nests in places I occasionally roam :(

Well for a blurry second shot it holds a wealth of information and to be honest made me chuckle slightly :-) Congrats on #1 also.
