I'd like to know if any of you guys use the angle finder C ?

Is it really a must-have accessory ?

btw, thanks Pekka . You gave me the craving to get something for my dSLR with your link to canon's accessory list

For doing macro work with extension tubes, teleconverters, and a lense diopter, I'd say it's pretty essential.

I do lots of macro at greater than 1x, and when you're doing stuff like pondwater wildlife at 8x or whatever, the angle finder is pretty handy for being able to see if you're really in focus.

Not to mention it helps when doing low angle photography and you want to just be able to use the "reverse periscope" instead of putting your chin in the dirt.

Astrophotography would be another area where it is quite useful. Its hard to focus through the 10D viewfinder on faint distant objects (though I was fortunate enough to actually acheive autofocus with my 10D/100-400 lens while aiming at Jupiter).

The magnification makes it easier to see skyward, as does the angle of the finder.

I don't have one (yet), but I think it is definitely a must have. I never realized how often I shoot at different angles, until I switched from a G2 to a 10D. I had become accustomed to composing shots via the rotatable LCD. I find myself wishing I had an angle finder every time I'm out shooting. I'll definitely get one sometime in the future.

Ironic that as I type this, B&H's Web site says they are backordered.

Did Pekka do that? Did forum members go out and snap them all up?

Quick, check Adorama, maybe they still have one - who else?

You'd think the cheapskate that sold you that camera would've thrown one ine instead of that crappy eyepiece extender.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? I've half a mind to ask for a refund, but I just hate dealing with selfish people

Well in fact I was thinking to low angle photography, but not to astrophotography  Yes that could be interesting for that.

What about the magnification :?:

So far no magic for me... I just can't get comfortable using it...

I guess that is because I hand hold for just about everything even macro... If I used my tripod more often it might become a big part of my act... When I do use support it's a monopod and then the angle finder is probably just a better way to poke myself in the eye...

1.25x and 2.5x? Again, it must just be me as I can't use it long enough to feel like the magnified image is of some help...

Someone has shipped a discontinued Canon Magnifier S to me from Singapore but it hasn't arrived yet... I may be less disoriented by direct straight on viewing and the "S" may be just what I need...

Oh yeah... What do I want from these add-ons? I'm looking for better manual focusing for macro and telephoto pix when AF just doesn't cut it...

I copied this from somewhere on June 22nd... I should keep better notes but it was going to be part of my secret stash...

Minolta Angle Gizmo works with Canons
(paste)
The Minolta VN shows the whole field and just rounds off the corners of the frame. The build quality is excellent as well as the optics to my eye, and it fits the 10D perfectly. It retails for less than the anglefinder C to boot....
I was concerned that it would not fit on the eyepiece being a different brand, but it fits perfectly.
You can see the entire viewfinder digital display data except for the green focus dot even in the 2x mode.
Keep in mind that I have never tried or seen the Canon brand anglefinder, but I can't imagine anything being much nicer than this one.

I use mine for portrait work where I use MF exclusively and tripod mount. This and macro tend to be the main uses for the Angle Finder by most photographers.

old thread comes back to life....

i use mine for low angle scenic shots... shots where my 10d is mounted on a minitripod and i cane look down into the the finder and compose my shot.

i passed on the angle finder c and opted for a angel finder b with the adapter S. it works perfectly with my 10d and only cost me $66 new on ebay... better than the $175 that the C version costs

You see I think I would like one of these. But the main attraction for me is the magnification. I can admit that I am kind of blind and a bit of magnification would be greatly appreciated. Someone mentioned a discontinued eyepiece. Are there any other eyepiece magnifiers that are not angled?

sorry to resurect an old thread but i just got a 3rd party angle finder (made by seagull "WHO") off ebay and for what i do 99.9% macro..its a godsend.it only cost me 38 pounds.......... the build quality is great it magnifies x2 and it comes with adaptors for just about every camera ever made.............
i figured for 38 pounds if i didn't like it then i hadn't wasted too much money....... but this little thing is GREAT....

I just looked up the Seagull finder and you can get it here:

For 31 UK pounds delivered, sounds good to me

There is a Chinese-made angle finder in two versions, which are available on eBay from time to time. One (which I bought) is fixed at 1x magnification for about $75. The other is switchable in magnification at 1x/2x and is (if memory serves me) under $120. Having a 1.25x/2.5x Olympus one for my OM bodies, and having a Bronica one for my ETRSi, I can find no fault with the Chinese one in comparison with my brand named ones.

any issues with using one on a 300d?My Angle Finder C works as well on my son's 300D as it does on my 20D. There are two adapters that come with the Angle Finder C that allow it to be used on quite a variety of Canon SLR's - both film and digital.

I find itvery useful for macro work, if you are close to the ground, I have the seagull version, just the one with x1 which I bought of ebay, and is fine for my use. A lot cheaper then the canon. well worth checking out

My good old Olympus OM Varimagni Finder works well on my EOS 350D!
