I think this is an American Bittern, but not 100%, S/he wasn't doing all that much until a frog showed up! :)

All shot this evening, My flash screwed up the eye on the first one or maybe just an unfortunate angle. I was losing light and shot these at ISO-800...

Nice images of this heron on the hunt. The last one looks like an adult or very close to full adulthood. Mud Lake?

Thanx guys for the replies. I am surprised how much they change in color and pattern when they grow up...

Nice shots. Is he staring face to face with a frog in #4?

Janika

Yes, on #4 he is staring right at the frog and the frog is staring at him! ;)

Yes, on #4 he is staring right at the frog and the frog is staring at him! ;)
So, the question is, who won the staring contest??

I didn't see the bird strike, so my guess is, the frog took off!

Nicely captured series. Might want to watch the colour consistency of the green algae in between the first four shots as its a different colour/saturation in each shot.

Very nice John;

It's really good to see that this family is still very active; and allowing fairly close approaches...

Looks like the first pond as you enter the trail at Mud Lake?
