I have a question on these. I have a 10-22mm lens that takes a 77mm filter. If I purchased a lens that takes a filter size other than 77mm, is there an adapter I could purchase to make the 77mm filter work on the "other sized" lens? If there is an adapter, would you recommend I go this route? Just checking due to the fact that filters are so expensive. Thanks for any input given.

I think I just found my answer. I would need a step-up ring. Any pros and cons in using a step up ring? Does it affect picture quality since the filter will be a little further away from the lens glass?

They are also, in my opinion, clumsy to handle.
In my opinion, it's far more important to use a lens hood (all the time) than a "protective" filter. For the rare occasion that you might use a polarizing filter, though, you could probably go without the hood (even though I wouldn't want to).
