You'll likely get a better response if you tell people more about yourself, your goals in photography, your experience, and maybe even a bit about your personality...

Would you walk into a store looking for a job and just say, "I want work, hire me"???

If you have any bridal shows around your area, pay the guest fee and attend them. I have done this twice in the last couple of weeks.

Go up to all of the photographers, introduce yourself and let them know you are serious about wedding photograhy(if you indeed are) and that you're looking at the photographers booths because you're interested in becoming an assistant/2nd shooter for someone. Some of them will say, Oh.. well have fun looking and let me know if I can help you." And you might get one or two who immediately go for giving you their business card.

This is what happened for me today (now yesterday). A couple people immediately gave me their business card and one even invited me to go to an upcoming wedding and just sit in the background and watch them work to see if I like their style and then I can start learning from/ working with them provided we all get along well. :-)
