3 days ago I had a brand new G2 delivered by my photo-dealer. Opened the box & the camera looked fine. Set date & time & then noticed some small red holes in the LCD panel. I contacted dealer who told me he'd not seen this on Canon G2's. Am I just unlucky or has this happened before.

What do you mean red holes? Red pixels on the lcd screen? Or damage to the screen casing?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The red holes are in the LCD panel itself. When I took the camera out of the box, no damage was visible. It was only after I'd set the time/date function & the camera was on that I noticed very small dots of bright red light on a blank screen. These dots are NOT immediate apparent if there is a picture displayed on the LCD. 'Hope that makes thing clearer...

Dear Tim,
I believe the red dots are the "dead pixels" that are commonly associated with LCD screens.
Dead pixels can either appear red or white and there is an industry acceptable norm of a certain number dead pixels before you can request for an exchange. This info is also mentioned in the earlier pages of the Cannon G2 Manual. It will not affect the pictures taken but it is just an eye-sore. Maybe you could talk to the retailer for an exchange. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry too much about three pixels, I have one in the corner of my lcd screen and I just overlook it. You might want to contact Canon's tech support just to see if three dead pixels are enough to exchange send the camera in for repair.

Hi Guys...My photo-dealer has collected the camera & its now on its way back to Canon for a replacement LCD screen. I also noticed small pressure marks on the top right & bottom left of the LCD screen frame. These marks appear to be made by the LCD trigger switch & some small bumps on the case moulding. 'Can't understand why these marks should even be there, unless the plastic material that surrounds the LCD screen is prone to easy marking. Remember that mine is a brand new unused camera. I just think things that are new, particularly of this value [650 UKP] should not be marked or damaged in anyway. Maybe I'm too fussy!
Anyway, my thanks to those of you who replied...
