I've had my DRebel about two months and so far, three times, I've turned the camera "ON" and nothing, nothing, nothing (trying both the power switch and the shutter button). Pop the battery out; back in; and all is well. But, it's a little unnerving. All the contacts look clean. :(

Anyone else experience this?

Make sure the battery door is completely closed. I have had a similar experience when the door is slightly ajar, so much so that I didn't even realize that it wasn't completely closed. Once I closed it, everything was ok.

I had the same issue and it really freaked me out. I had it out on the beach at the time - paranoid as hell anyway since it was only a week old and I was subjecting it to the sand and wind and wet - and my wife was wanting to take pictures of me and the kids. Of course I got the old "I hate having a camera that I can't operate when I want to" comment, although she is very understanding of my photography habit and got me started on it to begin with...

Turns out it was the battery door not being completely closed like the poster above. My guess is that she accidently opened it a bit when she got it out of the bag. Although the same thing happened to me later that day so I am only slightly worried that there is an issue with the battery door. I am keeping an eye on it for now.

This too, has happened to me once; the battery door was not closed all the way, after a few heart stopping moments I realized what was wrong. I think that it needs a stronger closing mechanism, expecially after hearing about how it has happened to other people. Mine must have came loose while I was changing lenses, and maybe when I was moving it around something loosened the door cause I surely didnt open it myself. I always check it carefully now.

Thanks to all who replied. I'll keep a better eye on the battery cover from now on. As Jemmind said, "Mine must have came loose while I was changing lenses, and maybe when I was moving it around something loosened the door cause I surely didnt open it myself." Same thing here.
