Has anyone ordered frames from pictureframes.com? Just curious, how satisfied were you with the result?

thanks,
daniel

It's funny you should ask. I was just assembling the frame I ordered from that very site. I have to say that I was quite satisfied. I ordered a custom size by ordering two sets of rails. The rails came with all the needed hardware and instructions. The only down side was that the wire was a bit short so I had to use my own.

All in all I would order from there again for anything more than a "cheapy" frame. For those I go to Michael's craft store. I got a black 8x10 there today for $3.25 with tax.

So, what did you order then? I ordered 3 metal frames all in black. one 16X20 and two 5X7's with matting and non-glare acrylic. Should I expect these 3 kits to come in pieces...like the frame itself in 4 pieces?

Thanks,
daniel

No I don't think so. I believe that when you order a complete frame it comes pre-assembled. I was ordering a frame for a 48"x30" print. So I had to order the rails piece by piece.

Of course you could call them and ask. The number is at the bottom of thier page I believe.

Yeah, I could call. It really doesn't matter, I don't mind putting it together, but I was just curious. What are you doing with a print that large? And how did you get it that large? Are we talking about a photograph here?

Actually it was a collage project that one of our clients wanted done. And to get it printed that large what I did was send it to the reprographics shop that I use for plan sets. The plotted on a 48" wide HP 800PS on extra glossy photopaper. I have to admit the print quality was good. And once it was behind the glass it looked every bit as good as a traditional photo.

Sounds good. Thats huge. I am nervous about getting the 16X20 photograph I ordered, just because it involved some enlarging past my 6MP. and its going in my living room! Oh well, maybe it'll turn out great!

thanks,
daniel

If you shot RAW and produced a 300DPI TIF then I would think that you would get a pretty fine print. Even if you shot JPG Fine and used the 180DPI file you should still get a print that looks fine under glass.

Yes, I did shoot RAW and produced a TIFF, and then enlarged in PS by 10% at a time with Bicubic smoother. It wasn't the sharpest shot to start with though. It was descent I guess, but not as sharp as it could have been. I had to have someone else take it as I was in the photograph...too bad I can't be on both ends of the camera at the same time!

...just wanted to follow up. I got my frames & mats for my 16X20 and two 5X7's and am quite happy. I got the econometal shiny black frames with smooth black mat, foamcore backing and non-glare acrylic fronts. They took a little time to put together, but I am quite satisfied with the frames.

If you don't mind my curiosity how much did it run you? I figure to frame an 8x10 photo using an 11x14 wood frame, glass and acid free materials it costs me around $20CDN.

It was about $85 for those 3 frames.
