I have an Intern that I use for Sports photography and I figured I'd let her be second shooter at a wedding a coulpe weeks ago. She did great with the formals and a top job with the reception.
Anyway here is a photo of her.

So totally off topic - but I so couldn't shoot a wedding in a dress like that! Gorgeous though it is.
Cheers,

Hope she doesn't shoot sports in the same outfit. ;)
All kidding aside, I'm going to take on an intern from St. Mary of the Woods College this spring. I may have my hands full though, given the fact that they stress film cameras, rather than digital.

If I had an intern that looked like that, I'd never snap a single frame.

how do they get their hours? dont they have to "work" for like 100 hours? sounds like an aweful lot of weddings.

Yeah shes a looker alrigth. Sports she wears short shorts and the tightest tea she can find and the players have hard time concentrating, 3 times this summer a Coach has asked her to leave because sh is too distracting to the players GO TEAM!

sheesh - she's doing a great job helping the coach to weed out the slackers and those who's concentration is lacking and oh she's pretty

Hey, if anybody does want a wedding intern, I'm nowhere near that hot and won't get in the way of your work!

I would never shoot a wedding in a dress like that. How are you going to kneel and crawl on the floor in that dress?

Perhaps she dresses in this manner to gain attention, just like the inappropriate attire already mentioned by the OP. She's pretty, but someone needs to tell her nicely that looks fade in time and skill will take her a lot farther in life. Look at some of the comments the men have already made. They aren't exactly taking her seriously.
Sorry to sound like an old prune, but maybe the OP should have a heart to heart with her about professionalism.

I shot my first wedding in a dress similar to that. I thought I should dress pretty and blend in with the guests.
Yeah...Bad idea.
Learned my lesson at least.
I second notapro -- anyone looking for an intern who won't distract guests! I'm your gal :P

I think it's great though. Once I got past the drooling, she'd be perfect for getting those candids, especially if no one takes her seriously. She looks like a guest with a camera and that's perfect for those sniper shots. She'd probably want to dress a little more un-vixenly as a primary though.

Not at all. I just hate to see women regarded in this manner. She's young and probably doesn't realize yet that you should be valued for your expertise rather than your cup size.

At least, she is wearing a bridesmaid -receptionish type dress and not some hootchie mamma skirt halfway between here knees and behind.
With that said, I'd never wear a dress to shoot a wedding cause I'm like one of the guys, climbing up things, laying down on the ground to shoot up, etc.

I'm pretty secure, and I find it offensive that someone would assume that a pretty girl would make anyone feel otherwise. the only thing on this forum that makes me feel insecure is seeing the awesome talent some people have... THAT I care whether I can match.

No doubt she's very pretty.
But being that pretty is more of a curse than a blessing.
Easy to get noticed... hard to be taken seriously.
It's so bad, I tell my wife I hope our kids will be very average looking. She says that's mean... ooops.. but it's the truth.

My husband and I have said the same thing essentially, especially having two daughters. You really worry about when they get into the 13-21 sort of range. It's hard to find that fine line between not telling them they're beautiful enough and telling them too much.

man, I've heard all the guys locker room conversations. It can be REALLY REALLY bad. If I had a daughter, I just can't imagine someone talking about her in that way.
Also, even in the corporate world, I've seen many pretty girls easily work their way into a company.... but they are always passed over for advancement. Tough life.

Working on a construction jobsite, I hear a lot of that too. After working with these guys for so long, when the company picnic comes around, I almost don't want to bring my wife around those guys. Truth is, they've all got their wife and kids too, and if they are talking that way about your wife or daughters, it's because they are good looking. BUT, if I could hear them talking like that about my wife, I would definitely put them in their place real quick.

My fiance is a union construction worker, and he told me that the guys never talk about the wives and girlfriends like this. That's taboo. Only "scanky" girls are discussed in this manner. If someone talked about me like that, my fella would deck them.

I don't find her dress to be that revealing to be honest. I think she's dressed very nicely. To be honest... I'd have no problem if she were my assistant in regards to her attire. Yeah, ok I'm a 39 year old male and she's attractive and pretty and so on... ok, who am I kidding?

I don't think she's dressed badly either.. the dress, her makeup, etc are all pretty conservative. Just not the most functional way for a photographer to be dressed to shoot a wedding. I think the op said it was her first time, though.

And yet this was your first post: "Hope she doesn't shoot sports in the same outfit."
But hey, what do I know? I just saw a nice looking girl, in a dress. Cup size never even entered my mind......

Exactly, meaning her outfit would be equally inappropriate for that particular job. Hey, we women have to stick together in a male-dominated workforce and try to educate one another. As Lloyd said, looks might get you in the door, but they sure don't help you climb the ladder. If you have a business or plan to some day, you should be businesslike. And part of being a wedding photographer is being unobtrusive.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I tend to not see people for their color, sex or anything they don't have control over. But I do take notice of those who do.

Is your intern paid? I have an intern starting in September and this is part of her art program at school. She has to have completed a non paid internship. I have never had an assistant or Intern before. Should I kick her some side money or just let her work for the experience. I was planning on having her do mostly admin stuff but she is starting right smack dab in the middle of my little league football season so I could deffinitly need her help there shotoing photos at the games or printing photos.

She's lovely, but if my assistant showed up dressed like that, I'd send her home to change. I choose my own outfit based on its capacity to keep all my parts covered regardless of the position I contort myself into. If I need to hang upside down off a grain bin ladder, I know I won't have to worry about my bits popping out.

I didn't think there would be this kinda of chat about a girl with a camera at a wedding reception. Damn.
For baseball/Sports internship I do not pay her, she's still learning. But for wedding Receptions I do pay $50, because some receptions are so damn mind numbing and there is a lot of standing around making small talk. I do know of other photogs in area that pay "helpers" $100 per wedding. The helpers are just someone to carry the equipment and are not interns.
I'm glad I didn't post photos of my other sports intern. She plays sports and loves photography and is a model.
Peace out people. G.

Could you please provide contact information for this intern pool? :D
