i've read on descriptions that the canon s500 is capable of shutter speeds at 1/xxxx, but i have yet to discover the way to put it on these settings.
the manual is no help either =T
anyone know?

From what I've read, it looks like a range of shutter speeds up to 1/2000 sec. are available but they are all selected automatically. You can't set them yourself. However, it will let you set long shutter speed from 1 sec. to 15 secs.

Press "FUNC" and use up/down to move to exposure settings. Then press "Set" to go to shutter speeds. It's a two button function instead of one like most settings on this camera.
