Here are a few of my favorites from an engagement session that I did recently in New Orleans. This couple was a lot of fun, and really up for some different shots. We really packed a lot of different scenes into our two hour session, and I really can't fit them all on here so I picked what I thought were the strongest.

Awesome shots. They really have a great connection/relationship, it shows. I love your lighting and your posing. The one with the couple dancing is my favorite for sure.
What was your lighting for these?

Those are amazing. What "instructions" did you give them to have such a natural, personal looking outcome?
Also what was your lighting?

These are all very nice...i'm sure they will extremely happy!
For some reason her legs in #7 look off to me...like they are twisted...
I know they are not, but her right knee is really hyperextended...must just be my medical background "overanalysing"

Thanks for the responses! I'd love to take all of the credit for how relaxed they are together, but really they were quite comfortable even in situations like in the bar or on the street where there were a number of people very conscious of our presence. That is most obvious in #5, and one of the reasons that its a favorite of mine, as you can see that the little girl has her hand over her mouth as they are about to kiss (couldn't have planned that if I tried!). I used a variety of available light (mostly in the bar and on the streets with people around, as to not make my presence too obtrusive) and my speedlight on a monopod (no one else to hold it this time, just me and my flash on a stick!). I am trying to make a point, even when I shoot with no flash, to control the light in the situation to my liking by positioning them where the light is most flattering. In #8 I actually stood on a chair and readjusted the ceiling light before taking any shots. Sometimes though, its just about having fun and encouraging the couple to do the same - #4 was very spontaneous and I think that it was more important to capture the scene than to make my presence very obvious. I just talked to her this morning and she is very excited and very happy with the pictures. The wedding is in October, so I'll post 'em when I got 'em!

Hi,very interesting setup.was your monopod free standing??
or did you hold it with 1 hand and your camera in the other??
That sounds very difficult,if that was the way you shot them?,
but the results is what matter and these are outstanding.

Chris I just visited your website, and I must say your talent is inspiring. I love your use of available light and your use of of camera light. It's photographers like yourself that I'm glad share their work because there are times when I feel as though my skills just aren't getting any better. Then I come across imagies like yours and it drives me to become better. Thank you for sharing and awesome work.

Yep, one hand on the monopod and one on the camera - not too difficult though, just need to keep the shutterspeed high enough that you don't get motion blur as you can't steady the camera as well. Ideally I'd hire a highschool student or two but it would be hard to find someone reliable that only wants to work for a couple of hours once or twice a week.

Wow, awesome. These have so much character. I bet their wedding will be a blast to shoot if their e-photos were this much fun! 4 is my favourite, and I love that she's in bare feet.

There are some nice shots there:) I'm just wondering about the first one though. What's up with the background? Is that barrel distortion on the left side or is the background just off kilter some?
Don't mean to nit pick but I was just wondering. Anyway, I love the shots;)

Hi,
I like these, especially the last one. I was in New Orleans two weeks before Katrina hit. Brings back memories of a special city. I can almost hear the Zydeco music, which is playing everywhere & the smell of incense that fills the French Quarter & most of New Orleans. Another magical place is New Algiers, just a short ferry trip over the river. Great work my friend.

Thanks! I think that it's important not only to try to capture the essence of your subject's but also the essence of their surroundings, so I'm really happy that these images are bringing back memories for you!! And the one thing that New Orleans is not short on is personality.
