As usual I take shots of events for the company I work for. Taking cricket shots was a first for me and I must say I had some real difficulties getting the exposures right for what I wanted. The weather was very stormy as you will see from one of the images so getting a decent shutter speed was quite hard. Anyway, I don't think these have turned out too bad. Your thoughts are as always much appreciated.

Wow, the first one I thought..LOOK at the sky, that is where I focused..

The second one, do you know your settings? It would have been great to have stopped the action on the bat (?)

I really like the last one.

I have never seen cricket before...

The 2nd one is iso800, tv, 1/400 and f11

I really like the first one - the sky looks about right for an English summer

2nd one, the motion blur spoils it for me sadly, however the last one is a good capture.

Not bad for a first attempt!

Thanks for the comments both. Paul, I thought 400 would be enough to freeze the action but obviously not. I'll up it the next time I go.

Lisa, I spent a year in high school in Pittsburgh and tried one day in phys ed to explain cricket and I couldn't do it. Just think of it as baseball with a million more rules ;o)

JuSlaughter: Shoot action with your lens wide open. This will help separate subject from background and give you more shutter speed to work with. I like to stay above 1/1000 when possible. I hear the 5D controls ISO noise very well, so don't be afraid to crank it up to gain shutter speed. Also, maybe consider using your XT instead of your 5D. The 1.6 crop factor of the XT will give your 100-400mm the DOF of a 160-640mm.

Ronnie, thanks for the info, I never thought about using the XT, in fact it hasn't been out its bag since the 5D arrived
