After tons of research for a tripod and head I have decided on a combo and wanted your opinions. A used gitzo 1228 tripod in almost knew condition (I can't remember the exact price but it is around 305 shipped overnight) with carrying bag and a bogan/manfrotto rc488rc2 head which I will most likely retail for. I've read the users reviews about the gitzo 1228 and I can accept the report drawbacks.
I am shooting with a 1d classic with the biggest lens being a 70-200mm f/4 and a 100-400mm down the line (2 years). I wanted a general tripod that I would comfortably strap to my backpack to shoot some landscapes and wildlife and occasionally use for some group shots. Also when I do take a yearly vacation, I would like the option to check it in with me if possible or just throw it in my luggage.
