Since I spend so much time in the forum, I felt I should be able to share a bit of good news! I got a call from my Commander today saying I was selected to be promoted as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force! This really means I have more money to spend on parts!

To everyone else: Thanks for the support, not just for the news, but for the troops in general. It'd be nice if national media focused on the good side of things for once, becuase there's nothing better than welcoming faces versus placards of disgust! Thanks for the kind words! Keep paying taxes so I can keep my job!

It's too bad you have to wait that long. I don't know if they still do, but the Navy had a policy called "frocking". At the discretion of the commanding officer, once someone was officially selected for advancement, the individual could be "frocked". This meant the person could wear the rank and received all the privileges associated with it except pay and time in rank. These accrued from the official date of rank.

They still do. My brother is in the Navy, so I hear about it from time to time. I'd much rather wait to get the pay... get time to observe before I get my as$ chewed for inexperience! 6 months isn't bad at all!

Congrats and thanks for all you do. I never got it about people having issues with those who serve. It's not like you are President and chose to go for the hell of it. You guys and gals are doing a very difficult job just like police, firemen/women, doctors, etc. do. It's all about protecting the citizens of America. If someone is against the war, that's one thing. But against those fighting it? I just can't see it. Anyway, off soapbox. Hope you like your new position and good luck to you!

Staff Sergeant! Outstanding...congratulations. Let me know when the "wetting down" party is scheduled...there are enough POTNers in the DC area to really help you celebrate :D
And, my sincere thanks to you for serving our great country!

We flew through the Fakenham Corridor... Helicopter types... we don't need loud engines to make noise! But I do appologize for that!

I just looked at the results... I'm 11423 of 15000+ to be promoted... The closer to the larger #, the faster a person made rank... not too shabby. Now, if my number was 1, that means I waited between 12-15 years of service without getting promoted to this rank... Unfortunately, there's got to be a #1...

That sounds familiar! I got 'promoted' 8 months ago and now I'm being referred to as a 'candidate'. I love it when my peers screw up and make it difficult for the rest of us to make it honest. (long, really long story). Maybe by the end of the year I'll be able to wear my rank too!

If you have the chance to take the stripe early...jump on it...RHIP!!! You might not be getting the bucks yet...but getting the bennies is a good thing...congrats!!! and thanks!!!

Unfortunately the Air Force wont resort to that. They'd much rather make us wait... Chances are, of the 15000+, about 3% of those will get in trouble somehow and lose the promotion and probably a stripe. So really, I can get a DUI tonight(theoretically speaking), and go from a hopeful E5 to an incarcerated E2. Don't worry, no plans on celebrating and driving! Thanks again for the kind words from everyone!
