Here is a link to some shots I took at Monday's practice round at the 2007 PGA Championship held in Tulsa Oklahoma. Yes, there are some of Tiger. lol. Most were taken with the 400mm 2.8. The temperature was a brutal 100+ degrees and the lighting was, well uncompromisingly bright to say the least. I was not given any special consideration for access for the photos so the angles might not be the best, but they were the best I could get.

Were you *inside* the ropes?
Will you get to shoot the 4 day tourney itself?
Who do you work for? I want your job .. :p

Ha. Actually, the tournament is already over and Tiger won...again. These shots were from the 6th of August and I was not inside the ropes. Also I'm not a pro, just an amateur with a passion for taking pictures so like most men, I work for my wife.. lol.

No big deal. Actually, they thought I was with a magazine or paper, but I could have went in anyway as there is no limit to the lens size.

Very nice I love to golf and love to watch the big boys play. Very lucky guy to be able to shoot not only A tournament but THE tournament.
Loved them

It was nice and I was fortunate, but IMHO "THE" tournament is the Masters. Still workign on getting to that one. Thanks for the compliments, though!

I'd rather shoot the Open Championship... ;)

It's kind of odd that you were able to get in with that lens because at the Reno-Tahoe Open just a week or two prior to that I wasn't allowed to bring in a measly 70-200 f/2.8 (or anything for that matter...). Did you have to use a lot of burn/dodge tool to get more even exposures? In your shots of Sergio Garcia this looks to be the case, but I can't be sure of it.

They're having one right now about 2 hours away from me in Sunriver and here I am stuck at home. ARGGGHHHH oh well maybe the open or masters is in my future. I did get to see the Masters a few years ago before I was into photography as heavy as I am now. What a rush watching those guys. I can only dream of hitting a drive that far:lol:

I thought Furyck didn't make the trip. Take it he he tried but the pain was too much?

What lens were you using with Tiger? 400? Some of the earlier shots looks like he's a block away. Suppose that's by design.

Nice shots. I don't think they look too hot at all. For the extreme conditions, they look great. Polarizer?

All the Tiger shots were from the 400. I got within about 50 meters of him and that the closest I could get to him on the range. Then he was whisked off to a waiting cart to go to an unspecified hole on the course. Man, it has to be tough being that guy. I know he makes a killing in terms of money, but just to have people that crazy about anyone is, well, crazy. That poor guy can't go to the bathroom in peace. Once, when he tried the crowd even broke down a fence trying to get to where he was. Insane.

I'm with you, I mean, he's just a person that's really good at golf. People are weird. Unless he's teaching me how to play better, fighting the crowds to see one drive or putt just isn't worth the hassle if you ask me. Saw him at the Buick and the Ryder Cup, but again, I was sitting in the grand stands — made no effort to stay ahead of the rushing crowd.

I kind of like guys like Toms or Weir. They're great but humble. Although I think Tiger has a humility about him as well — although he's confident.

A monkey could hit the ball deep off the tee. It takes talent to do that consistently. ;)
