Congrats on the lens purchase. Indeed it's a sharp lens for the price, I tend to use it quite often with my DRebel.

The 50mm f/1.8 changed my perception of lens image quality. Have fun with it, as the big aperture can really open up some creative photography.
When I got my 50mm f/1.8 (which is now sold, I now use the f/1.4), it sold me on Primes and FAST LENSES. When I got my 70-200 F/4L, I was sold on 'L' Lenses...so i traded that for the f/2.8L version and am now sold on FAST 'L' Lenses.
Crap. There goes my wallet.
