Applied the filter to a pic of my kid in action, let's see yours.

Whyeth @ 50% on a duplicate layer. Then drop the opacity to taste. Select top most layer and press shift+ctrl+alt+e. This flattens & creates a new layer with out effecting the bottom layers. Finally I select the Brush tool and choose Vivid Light. Drop the opacity of the brush to 10%. Then I paint with black & white to bring out details & shadows.

That swimming pic is beautiful, will give your technique a try to see what comes out.
