I am about to embark upon a purchase of the Canon 10D SLR Digital, because I have read so much about its semipro/professional qualities and it is just at the top of my affordability range, along with the 17-40 f/4L and the 17-200 f2.8L IS USM. I'm happy its digitalbecause I won't be able to afford film!!!!
A couple of questions I would appreciate answers on from you experienced photographers before I pull the trigger on my credit card, these questions which may be the most important for my purpose for using the camera:
Can you make prints 13"x19" and larger with the 10D that are really, really crisp and clear (obviously with the lenses listed above)???
If you use the 1.4X extender with the 70-200, will the same large "prints"be of the same quality as without the extender???
Thanks very much for your help.

I've had 24"x20" prints made from images from my 10D, and they've been spectacular. I've also plotted images from my 10D at 24"x36" on regular coated bond paper to give to parents, and they've liked them enough to spend extra money on having them framed .... and all of the images that I've had enlarged have been cropped from the original size image ..... so my answer to your question is "Yes" ....

Can't answer this one because I don't use extenders .....

I agree with what Cecil said. No problem with the larger prints from the 10D.

Yes. I do so with my DRebel and S9000 printer. I have found that upsizing the image in Photoshop will make the image better than just using the printing software that comes with the printer or camera...not really a surprise  .

Image quality will be marginally less with an extender than without depending upon the quality of the extender. If image quality is reduced, print quality will follow. The Canon 1.4X extender has an extremely low impact on image quality so this should not be a meaningful factor in the example you cite.

I will purchase the equipment this week and will let you know how I do with the 10D.
Again, Thanks

Just remember the golden rule that the larger the print, the further away you tend to view it from. BIG poster viewed close up look terrible but from a distance look great. So a 4x6 needs to be to a much higher resolution than a 13 x 19.
I have made prints from the 10D up to A0 size and they are very acceptable.

I have a print from my former 300D shot with a 70-200 f/4L on my living room wall that is 16X20. The 300D had the same sensor as my new 10D. And you can bet that my wife would have never allowed a 16X20 on her living room wall if it wasn't top notch quality. In fact, it was her idea to do it. I did get better results by keeping the dpi at 300 and enlarging in PS 10% at a time. I got very helpful advice on here for doing that.

While it's true that a huge print needs to be viewed from a distance because the resolution may not be there to make it tack sharp up close, 13x19 is NOT large enough (from a 10D) to require viewing it from a distance. A sharp 10D photo can be easily blown up to 13x19 (epson printer, eh?) and have it remain tack sharp on close inspection. The can go even larger but that's getting close to maximum tack sharp size. You can create a full BILLBOARD sized print with a 10D that will look just great....if you drive by it on the freeway. :)

SANTA - Thanks for the reply :D
Yeh - Epson Stylus 2200 - Great Printer! I don't know anything about the Canon i9900, but I understand it also is a great printer.
Do you have any experience making a "panorama" 13" x 44" from a crop of a 10D shot?
Thanks for your help! :D
