CS 3 help needed again.

Hi, to anyone out there that has Scott kelby's new Cs3 book. On page 160 It talks about resizing the smart way using smart objects. Well I love the look it shows like the background picture with the opacity low, so you can barely see it, and the color photo like to the side of it.

My question is in step one, it says to go under file and choose place , use the place command instead of opening the photo and dragging into another document. Well when I click on file, Place is not highlighted, so I can't click it. Anybody have a suggestion or a way to get around it and still come out with this effect?

I have his cs2 book, and he says you must have an open file to use the place command.

Possibly you don't have an open project whether its a new blank project or another open file. The Place command should be available for you.
