I am going to take fireworks photographs tonight during Canada Day celebrations. This is with my new Canon Digital Rebel - I am so excited!

The settings I am thinking of is:

- use 18-55mm lens
- f8.0 to f.11
- 1-4 secons
- 100 ISO
- Focus to infinity

Should I keep my UV Haze filter on? If so would the above setting need to be change in anyway?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

UV is a toss-up. If you like UVs then use it. I don't like them, so I wouldn't use one.

I would set the lens for the hyperfocal distance, not infinity.

How do I set my lens to hyperfocal distance? My lens donot have distance scale.

Pull the UV and other filters during night photography. You risk reflections and other anomalies using them at night.

Use the calculator here (http://dfleming.ameranet.com/dofjs.html) to calculate the hyperfocal distance and then simply focus on something at the correct distance, then flip the lens to manual focus.

I used a number of settings. Basically the setting range was:

- f4.6 to f11
- 1-5 seconds
- 100 ISO
- Focus (35mm) 56.6mm - 60.37
- Manual and Auto Focus

Couple of shots were taken in full automatic; the results were not that great as the camera had a hard time to obtain good focus.

Great, thanks for the info. I'll give it a try tomorrow night.
