Sunny day. Is it gonna be less than a second or more?

What are your experiences?

A tremendous amount depends on your filter you choose (as they cut out or transmit light in different amounts) and the lens/aperture you choose, as well as the amount of IR light and the cameras sensitivity to IR light.

A black filter will likely limit you to always using a tripod or brace, where as a red filter, will likely allow you to hand hold some shots (at least braced). Naturally, if you shoot at f16 or f1.4, the time variance between the two settings would be large...

There are also orange IR filters, but they are for colour film.
