Red Bull airshow is coming up here on portugal, i'm going to porto ( if any potns menbers there i'll gladelly go shoot with them.
and i'm wondering if my 70 200 zoom range is enought, i could probably buy a kenko 1.4 tc but that would kinda ruin my €€ for tamron 17 50.
here's my lastest try with sigma 18 200

i have never tried it
but the 70-200 doesn't react well to tele converters

what ?! according to photozone this is THE BEST lens interms of sharpness and iq from cannon ?, i've seen threats arround here that says a 1.4 TC on it has no impact on IQ ?
and you're also aware that there isn't a single BAD COPY of this lens on potn ?
are you SHURE you are refering to my F4 L IS ? and not the f4 or the 2.8 ?
edit: besides that, i can't possibly see a bad spec on this lens... it's total perfection.

im not talking about the lens the lens its self is great but from what i remember when using telecoverters it results in IQ degradation
and you're also aware that there isn't a single BAD COPY of this lens on potn ?
bit of a sweeping statment

.*insert sarcastic remark*

Easy there guy.....you started the sweeping statements by saying that the 70-200mm lenses don't do well with teles. That's not true. They perform just like any other lens with a teleconverter...the Canon teleconverters are supposed to have fairly good optics. I have a 2x teleconverter that is alright with my 70-200: they're good for what they are. No, they aren't as good as a lens at that FL....but for cheap and portable use, you can get decent photos from them. The 2.0x has more degredation then the 1.4: so the 1.4x is more popular for telephoto work.

I use both TC's on this lens. and I feel 1.4x is almost no degrade in the IQ. its noticeable slightly with the 2x. I even stacked 1.4x + 2x and yet able to get printable result.
here is a test shot with the 2x. No PP, shot in JPEG L straight out of camera
first resize and second 100% crop.

Hey i don't wanna start a discussion about this, but there is really no bad copies of this lens so far, since it's f4 construction is easy, yeah true it's not 2.8, however i don't see it has a bad side... offcourse i could start complaining about lens not being F1.0 ? ,besides it would never be as sharp has it is if it was 2.8, even the if you stop the 2.8 version of this lens to f4 , it won't be has sharp has it is.
i don't get this "*insert sarcastic remark*"
i just noticed i posted this on the wrong section, and honestly i'm just trying to make shure this would be a good or not, tomorow i'm going to the river and i'll know if i need it or not, but since this is a year event i'll probably buy kenko 1.4.

Another one. 2x tc. 400mm, no PP, JPEG L.
first resized and second 100 % crop
If you add some USM to it, it will become razor :D

i have never tried it
but the 70-200 doesn't react well to tele convertersThe 70-200s are generally considered to do better than any other zooms out there when used with good TCs.

Olá, bem gostava de ir ver a corrida..... Anyway, I think what everyone is saying is that the image quality with the converter won't be as good, but doesn't mean it'll be bad. I too think 200 mm isn't enough for the air race.

I used my 70-200 2.8 on the 30D with the 1.4X TC last year at the air race final in Perth. It worked fine, although I was intimidated by the guy with the 400 2.8 next to me :).

Who says?
I can't locate the course map for the Portugal races, but looking at the map for Budapest (and San Diego) I think you're going to be close enough to the action to get perfectly acceptable images with the 70-200. I fully expect that my 100-400 at the long end is going to be too long for the races in San Diego.

david add me to msn.
eye i also think 200 is short, but i'll have to live with it, and cropping won't be a problem.

This is a shot that was taken using the 100-400 here in Ireland a while back.
Depending on where you will be to the aircraft, the 70-200 might be ok but with the 100-400 you will have better chances of getting much tighter shots too.
