Hi,
Glad you like your G7, I have just ordered one after researching the best buy all weekend.
Cleaning Lenses, always avoid if possible, small specks of dust make no difference to your shots, but if you must clean alens use a lens pen, cost very little from a store.

Cleaning lenses is a very special work, so I suggest you to take the camera to the nearest service!

Not if you are cleaning the outside surface of the lens. You have to do it all the time.
Disassembling the camera to get at the internals, most definitely. Externals - that would be ridiculous.

1. Use a blower (e.g., Rocket Blower (http://www.amazon.com/Giottos-AA1900-Large-Rocket-Blaster/dp/B00017LSPI/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-2195413-7655120?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187797155&sr=8-1)) to remove any grit from the lens surface.
2. Apply some lens cleaning solution (available at any photography or optical shop) to a good quality microfiber cloth (e.g., Microdear (http://www.amazon.com/Microdear-Microfiber-Deluxe-Cleaning-Cloth/dp/B0002E3WGS/ref=sr_1_1/104-2195413-7655120?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187797290&sr=1-1)) and gently wipe in a circular motion until dry.

Canon documentation specifically states do not use any liquid lens cleaning solutions. I learned the hard way seeing some of the coatings noticeably disappear.

I've been cleaning my Canon lenses using the method described above (except I used lens tissue before the advent of microfiber cloth) for the last 30 years without ill effect, and that includes some very expensive L lenses.
Canon's warning is to avoid claims by users who get too compulsive and aggressive in their lens cleaning (Similar to Canon's warning against cleaning the sensor on DSLRs). The key to proper lens cleaning is moderation and care. Most of the time, using the blower followed by your breath and a quick wipe-down will suffice. Sometimes, gunk gets on the lens, and then your only option is to use a liquid lens cleaning solution. Just don't apply the fluid directly to the lens; it goes on the cleaning cloth.

I could have used some of your 30 years experience to avoid 10 minutes of time destroying the lens coating. :) Part of my mania involved trying to remove dust specs that I came to understand were underneath the lens. But that's another story. Happy ending was that I received a replacement camera.
