Hi there,
I saw this photograph recently, and I would really know how this effect has been achieved. Can anyone tell me how this is done (assuming it's done in Photoshop)?

The edges look darker, and the image looks more blurred towards the edges too.
Thanks

See my thread here, your photo is pretty much like the example I posted too.

I think it looks like the image was taken with a lensbaby initially. (Although I know that you can recreate the effect in photoshop.)

Oh, I'd say it's been solidly Photoshopped. I think I see a dodgy mask halo around the hand.

Haha, I just noticed that too.

if I were to do it, I'd start by adding a vignette, lowering saturation, copy layer, add gaussian blur to the top layer and add a layer mask then with a fluffy brush paint your focus. But that's just me.

guassian blur is okay, but lens blur does a better job and can do bokeh.
if you use a channel with gaussian blur, the radius is constant, it just affects opacity.
if you use a channel inside lens blur to drive it, the varying tones of the channel actually change the radius of the lens blur so a) you dont get that sometimes horrid ghosting effect and b) if your clever with a grad you can similate shallow DOF by the blurring getting larger further away from your intended focus point...and it does bokeh :)

See vignette technique link in my sig. Looks like saturation has been reduced as well.
