Problem with new Didital Rebel Lens does not work

I bought a new Canon Digital camera with the new EF-S 18-55 lens several months. My problem is when I attach the above mentioned lens I hear a clicking noise, the CF card light blinks red several times , then I get error 99 code. Now the strange part. If I attach one of my other EOS lenses everyhting is fine.

Now what??? I have checked the battery and it is fine as far as I can tell. Checked the contact points on the the lens and they also look ok.

Sounds like a dud lens.. it certainly wouldn'e be the first.

Your under warranty.. call Canon and ship that bad boy in.

Try some contact cleaner first. Not a pencil eraser, contact cleaner for gold, electrical contacts.
