Anyone has these?

Are they going to work with 580ex and 430ex? What else do I need to buy? And +/- feedbacks?

That set will not work with the 580/430EX's, but the universal versions will. 1 Tx & 1 Rx set, http://www.adorama.com/EL19360.html. Additional Rx's, http://www.adorama.com/EL19352.html. If you have 580EX I or 430 EX, you'll also need a synch cord, http://www.adorama.com/PNMHSF1.html?searchinfo=paramount%20cord%20hot%20s hoe&item_no=2.
I am just getting used to mine, but have been experiencing a few lack of firings. I am going to try to switch to a different operating frequency to see if this persists. Also, the on/off button on the receivers is a pain in the butt as it's easy for it to inadvertantly turn on. Overall I am pleased as I wated a cheaper alternative to PW's, but am still getting used to the system.

Can I put an ebay hotshoe adapter to work with the Universal version?

I don't have experience with them, but I don't see why not.

There are lots of different "hotshoe adapters" on ebay, if you indicate the exact one you intend to use, it is likely that someone will be able to give a precise answer.

I got my set + one universal receiver last week. I tested them with my monolight/strobe, with my 430EX and 580EXs and with my friends SB-800 and SB-24 and work perfectly (at 1/250 sec).
For the price (less than $300 for 2 receivers and one transmitter), it is a good buy. The best thing I could say about them is the size, its virtually weightless so it doesn't really add weight to my bodies (or bag).

FANTASTIC! I assume you mixed a Canon flash with a different light source? thanks for starting this thread. I've heard about this system from Strobist group at Flickr.

I recently purchased the elinchrom el-skyport universal set and found that my Canon 10d would get an error99 when I tried to fire the shutter with the transmitter attached to the hot-shoe. Tried all settings including manual to no avail. Took transmitter off error 99 disappeared. Anybody else experiencing same issue?

Never heard of the Err99 with Skyports, hope it's not a common occurence. Do you have another body to try them on?
I'm personally saving up for these rather than Pocketwizards. Considering I don't need the range of PWs nor do I need the specific frequency on the MAX units I think these are a fine 'compromise'.

Over 1000 shots on mine (20D) with no problems.

No, but thank you for suggesting it. The receiver has various cords that come with it to plug into camera mounted strobes as well as studio strobes, however the transmitter does not. Also it would somewhat defeat the purpose of purchasing them since I would like to alleviate any additional wires. Lastly, in any photos I have seen advertising the units it does not show wires connected to the camera PC.

Double check the pile of wires that came with your Skyport set. It includes a short wire with a sort of sub-mini plug on one end and a PC male connector on the other. Its purpose is for connecting the transmitter to cameras without a hotshoe. It won't connect to the receiver.
I realize it's not as convenient as using the hotshoe. But it may help diagnose the problem, depending on whether or not it works.

Wanted to get back to you regarding the issue of the error 99 message that I rec'd when I placed the Elinchrom transmitter on my Canon 10d. I found out the battery of the transmitter was in backwards. Sorry about all signed brain dead at 59!

I have them on a 40D and have had no problems at all. I agree about the receiver on/off button - poor design choice there. But the units work as advertised and have not had any misfires at all. I had previously bought some ebay H-Kong cheapies and they were just that - could not rely on them to fire when needed. Useless.

Just got my Universal Kit and extra receiver. Was disappointed that there wasn't a single connector to connect a 580EX II and Sunpak 383 to the receivers. So I looked up my bookmarked thread with advice from Curtis N
and ordered connectors from FlashZebra. 2 female hotshoes to 1/8" male and a PC Screwlock to 1/8" male. Then went to Radio Shack for a temporary one unit fix with a 3/32" to 1/8" adapter. Hooked a receiver up to the 580 and walked all the way around the gym with the transmitter and all worked well

2 female hotshoes to 1/4" male and a PC Screwlock to 1/4" male. Then went to Radio Shack for a temporary one unit fix with a 1/32" to 1/4" adapter. Why didn't you just get the ones with a 1/8" miniplug?

Curtis,
Sorry, got distracted while posting. I meant 1/8". And 1/8" to 3/32" adapter.
1/4" won't fit in the skyport.
I edited the post.
