With educational pricing I can get CS3 Extended far cheaper than I can get CS3 Standard. It seems that CS3 standard is not an option through my vendor. Being a newbie I was wondering if there is any reason not to get the Extended version even though I will rarely, if ever, use the “Extended” features? Are the menus, options, etc. exactly the same as CS3? I would like everything to be the same so those with CS3 that tutor me don’t have to make any adjustments. Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure all shortcuts and tool locations are exactly the same between the two versions. I'm using Extended for the 3d functions, but used the trial version of CS3 standard prior to purchasing. As far as I'm aware, there were no differences between the two, except for the added features of course.
Go for Extended, IMO

I thought about one of the two too, and I choose standard over extended because I probably won't ever use those advanced functions and what not...
Saved me a lot of money in the end.

I got mine from academicsuperstore for $190, don't know or care which I have, but, you must have "merge". You will love those features.
