Hi Everyone,

Very new to the field so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

Just purchased the Rebel and was hoping to get some input on the best two or three lenses out there. Cost is not much of an issue but I would still like to get the best bang for the buck if possible.

I mainly do landscape photography but also would like to have a lens with great range (zoom) and keeps the angle as wide as possible at the same time.

Also, would like a good portrait based lens that creates a good, shallow depth of field even in low light situations.

I honestly can't think of any other type of lenses that would be needed for
shooting purposes but I would love to have input on any other recommended ones..

Thanks a million,

Hannah

You can get a great range with three lenses.. Note that zooms can't replace primes, but the following Canon lenses will give you great bang for the buck:

Wide angle: EF 16-35 f/2.8L USM
Middle: EF 28-235 IS USM
Telephoto: EF 70-200 IS f/2.8L USM

For portraits: EF 85mm f/1.2L USM

(you can throw a doubler on the 70-200 to get up to 400mm)

For about $5000.00 you'll have a set of lenses to die for :)

Personally, I'd prefer the 24-70 in the middle, but the 28-135 IS is a very useful lens as well. If cost is no object, you might as well throw in the 50/1.4 as well. Another good choice if money does become an issue is the 17-40 instead of the 16-35, stay with the 28-135, definately keep the 70-200 IS, and also get the 50/1.4 and the 85/1.8 (its a lot cheaper than the 1.2, though still top notch).
