View Full Version : 300D as P&S over G3/G5/S60, etc.

Hi there. I currently have the 1DmkI as my main camera, but I need a smaller camera I can take with me more easily. I bought both a G3 and an S1, and frankly I am so spoiled by the 1D that I hate to use these digicams and am not satisifed with their output.

I am thinking about selling both and getting a used 300D instead, and using it either with the kit lens or my 50mm 1.8 and a few others.

Has anyone else done this? I am just wondering if I will wind up finding the 300D too much of a pain to carry around too that I will regret getting it. Right now my G3 and S1 don't really fit in my pocket anyway, so I am thinking that it's only a small step in size up to the 300D, and a huge step in terms of image quality and performance (I used to have the 10D and loved it, although I love the 1D more). Is the 300D significantly lighter and somewhat smaller than the 10D?

Am I nuts? Will my wife divorce me if I come home with yet another digital camera? ;)

Thanks,

Peter

That's exactly what we do. The weight difference is significant. Without the battery grip the size difference is also very significant. It also doesn't look anything like a pro camera so it'll attract little or no attention and they're fairly cheap. And it's the same basic sensor at the 10D.

I also cannot stand standard P&S cams. They're just too freaking slow and have all that nasty in-camera processing.
