Anyone have tips to make a pint glass look ice cold, wet, and tasty? Google didn't really turn up anything other than stock images. I'm sure there is information in food photography textbooks and stuff.

If you want a frosty beer mug, then wet one down and throw it in the freezer. When you pour cold beer in it, the frost will start to melt away pretty quickly so be ready to shoot as soon as you pour it. Oh, and if it's something like Sam Adams (my drink of choice) it will get a bigger head on it then Paris Hilton. ;-)

funny that what makes an ideal beer photo makes for a less than ideal actual beer (big head, iced mug).

Be sure to have a pretty woman in a bikini in the shot, not much else will matter after that for marketing purposes.

Haha! Yes, that makes it much more refreshing. :-)

Or take a piece of foam core and cut a hole in it the size of the glass and also cut a hole in the seamless the same size and pump some light in from underneath. If you get the light set right set right it will give the glass of beer a nice glow. Along with the other sugestions you should have a great looking glass of beer.

Hmm. The perfect beer is one that is in my belly. Not sure how to photograph it though. ;)

I was in a lowly lit bar and currently do not own an external flash so I kind had to make do with what I had so the reflections are overly done but Rought jist was I used a ice chilled glass and waited for the water droplets. Shot in portrait.
I know that is not exactly wow but maybe an idea?

For the perfect beer shot you certainly don't want to make the glass look like it's ice cold.

I think its more of a personal preference. I would say a glass which has got water droplets running down the glass would appear to me more.

If you want it to be the perfect beer, the glass will need to be filled with this:

I've had beer in England. I think they put it in a sauce pan and warm it up before they serve it.
The rest of the world may like a cold beer, but I think it would sell better in England if the picture showed steam rising from the surface.

it's because it's so cold here in the UK, we drink beer to warm up :D
the colder the beer, the more bubbles/gas it contains - we like tasty ales and not as much gas.
Generally, i think these beers taste better than the US ones - we like to sup them slowly, enjoy the flavours as they 'mature in the glass', not always to drink them down quickly to hide the taste (when cold, the taste is not as obvious)

To get good sized water droplets, that dont run as soon as they touch the glass, use a glycerin/sugar based solution, thicker the better without over doing it. Also have the shot all set up and ready to fire, then have all modeling lights off and let the subject cool, spray your solution, fire your kit up and capture...Hmm this has made me thirsty
:)T
Below image is an old test shot.

whenever i have a beer, i pour it into a frozen beer mug, and the frost appears pretty quickly, and disappears quickly as well. i often too thought of shooting the glass mug in the frosty phase.

For a finer droplet, use a spray can of Evian water.
Perfume atomizers can give more control on gylcerin mixes.\Experiment with different solutions of the glycerin water mix.
