I have no idea what it is, but I very clearly see a face in the texture!

I'm with the Chicken on this one. Really cool abstract but I do wonder what it is. Lighting looks great for the coloring but that's about all I can add. Diva, I didn't see you at Woodstock, did I? Just kidding!

Cool colors and neat lighting...but...I am also curious as to what it is?

After playing with fire just this weekend I would guess it is sparks over a fire at night...

Looks like crackled varnish/paint to me . .

AlphaChicken

Yea. I say some kind of varnish or something. But where and on what that would give it that kind of lighting and color? I guess it could just be PPed that way.

No way that is sparks though. You would see black in the background somewhat and there is none. Also sparks don't travel that way through the air.

Where is the author??? Im so curious...lol.

Hi all. Thanks for your comments.

Do you really need to know what it is? Really? Why?
As for what it is... it is an abstract picture. The rest is up to your fantasy. Knowing what is was before I shot the picture is just killing the option to let it be whatever you like it to be. I feel this is much more appropriate for this kind of pictures.

Do you see the face? Do you see anything else? Any memories comming up? Any associations?

Asking what "it" is, feels kind of like asking the guitar player what strings he used, when you just heard an exciting song. ;)

But I will of course reveal the nature of "it" ... soon.

Lol. For me it would add to the interest. It would tell me what you started with and how it evolved from what you saw with your eyes into how you captured it with the camera. Isn't that where the skill of photographers can be told apart? In the way they decide to make art out of everyday things.

How can we interpret your interpretation of art without know what it was you started with.

For now I'll just have to live with being patient.

Are you ready to reveal it yet? Just curious...

Hey I like this picture. I don't see the face in this one, but I do see a figure standing on the left side with an arm extended. But anyway, I am with everyone else....what is it? I think knowing where it came from adds to my curiosity. ;)

AMEN! LOL. *begs and jumps up and down like a little kid* "Tell us! Tell us!"

I must be ignorant, because I don't see a face or a person in this. Just some cool and curiosity invoking patterns and colors. :)

Actually I see 6 dogs sitting around a table, smoking cigars, and playing poker...oops...maybe not...

Oh well... I decided to not reveal it.

Just kidding... ;)

Well, as so often, it is something I saw when strolling through the town, looking into store fronts. It is a part of a hand made lamp. I guess it was animal skin painted with some sort of a lacquer painted. The latter then crackled when drying. It is therefore a semitransparent layer backlit from a warm light source. Shot through the store front glass with no tripod available at quite bad light conditions. Therefore the aperture, and the degrading sharpness on the side.

On the less technical side, it is a picture that I took in the spirit of the series, and so there is a context set for me. If you don't see it in that context, then of course it might invoke pretty much different associations for you. That's the nature of abstract pictures.

Well everyone else can see dogs, faces and a person. I think I need meds, I see a dragon.

Serously...no-one else sees the face???

Top left corner....2 closed eyes (1 close to the left edge one more centred in frame and higher)......
The rest is easy from there.

Sigh....I really need to quit the meds.

Amazing lol. Never would have thought a lamp. Its beautiful. As to the face, I do see it somewhat now. I thought thats what you were talking about when I first looked for it, but wasn't sure thats what you meant.

Oh well, basically I didn't expect anyone to see something particular in this shot. As long as the picture is capturing the viewers attention I'm all happy. But the face and the dancer are two interpretations that I heard from several sources (in various forums).

thanks & cheers

Ok, now that I've been through the archive... here's the overview of that thing. This is how it looked before I zoomed in and focused on only a part.
